Attention All Ackerman High School Graduates:
If you graduated between the years of 2001-2007, we still have your
cumulative folders. These folders include such information as state
test scores, copies of birth certificates, and copies of immunization
reports. The cumulative folders will be available until May 1. After
this date, we will destroy these records. If you wish to pick up your
cumulative folder, please come by Ackerman High School between 7:30
a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Kindergarten Registration at WAC
Kindergarten registration for Weir Attendance Center will begin on
April 22, through April 30, 2013. Registration will be held in the
front office. You must bring your child’s Birth Certificate,
Immunization Form 121, Social Security Card and 3 proofs of residency.
NARFE Will Meet
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet
Thursday, April 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville. Mike
Taggart, North Mississippi Transportation Commissioner will be the
guest speaker. Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:30.
workshops April 26
The Town of Weir and Choctaw County Master Gardeners will host a
Plant Swap and Workshops on Friday, April 26 from 10 a.m. until 2
p.m. at the Weir Community Center, 336 Front Street, Weir. Bring a
plant and swap it for a new perennial or annual for your garden.
Additional plants will also be for sale if you do not choose to swap.
Great Presentations will be given by Dr. Lelia Kelly “Grandmother’s
Garden” and Dr. Jeff Wilson “Lawn Care.” Admission is $10 and will
include lunch and presentations. The public is invited to attend.
This is a great opportunity to meet new gardeners and obtain great

Benefit for Jonathan Pollard April 27
A benefit will be held for Jonathan Pollard on Saturday, April 27
from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Sherwood Community Center in Choctaw
County. Lunch and supper will be served throughout the day (donations
will be accepted). Lunch: Chicken spaghetti or spaghetti with
coleslaw, garlic bread, dessert, and tea
Supper: Chili or soup with crackers, cornbread, dessert, and tea.
Activities during the day will include: a dessert walk, musical
entertainment, small and large item raffles
Jonathan Pollard was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in November
2012. He began chemotherapy treatments in January 2013. His insurance
does not cover all of the treatment costs, and he needs some
assistance with the outstanding medical bills.
15th Annual AHS School Reunion
On Saturday, April 27, former classmates, teachers, coaches,
administrators and friends will gather on the AHS Campus for their
annual school reunion. The meeting begins in the Ty Cobb Complex at
noon with registration and a Silent Auction until 2 pm. All proceeds
from the Silent Auction support four graduating seniors from AHS. The
program begins at 2 pm in the auditorium. The Ackerman School Reunion
Group was organized in 1998 and is made up of former students,
administrators and friends of AHS. The purpose of the annual meeting
is renewing friendships and supporting the school. There is no cost
for the event.

Providence Baptist Church Memorial Services
Providence Baptist Church will hold Memorial Services on April 28,
2013. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be
Kevin Worrell. Pastor is Randle Poss. There will be singing in the

Mary Nell Coblentz of French Camp will be the guest speaker for the
April 29th (noon) meeting of the Choctaw County Historical &
Genealogical Society. Her topic is Writings of Virginia Patterson
Carlisle, local poet and journalist. Members and guest are welcome
to join us at the Choctaw Count Public Library Meeting room.
National Day of Prayer at French Camp May 2

AHS Academic Awards Day May 3
The Ackerman High School Academic Awards Day programs will be held in
the Ty Cobb Complex auditorium on May 3, 2013. The junior high
program will begin at 8 a.m. The high school program will begin at 9
Fundraiser trail ride upcoming May 3-5
The Webster Search and Rescue Team will be having a fundraiser trail
ride on May 3-5 on Mount Vernon Road in Webster County. Cost for the
weekend will be $20/adults, $10/kids (12 and under). Day riders can
come and enjoy the ride only on Saturday for $10/adults, $5/kids (12
and under). Breakfast and supper will be provided on Saturday (day
riders can enjoy the meals for an extra $5). The weekend stay will be
primitive camping/no hookups. Saturday night entertainment will be

Mathiston May 4
The Civic League of Mathiston is putting together their first annual
MayFest to be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9 AM. We will have
vendors, food, fun for the children, live entertainment and the fun
goes on into the night with a silent auction, raffle giveaway and
karaoke. Vendor spots are only $10 and location is on a first come,
first serve basis. Also, all church, praise and worship and drama
teams are invited to perform as well as soloists and
groups. A PA system will be provided for the entertainment. For more

Concert May 5
The Bowling Family will be in concert on Sunday night, May 5 at 6 pm
at the Ackerman Church of God. The church is located at 8162 Highway

Bluegrass May 11
The French Camp Historic District will host “An Afternoon of
Bluegrass” on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. as part of the Pioneer Day
festivities. Featured will be local bluegrass acts including Pilgrim
Family Bluegrass, The Russell Burton Family, and Uncle Pug’s
Bluegrass Band. The concert will be held in the lawn beside the
Council House Café in French Camp. Enjoy sitting under the tent or

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt.
Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets
the third Monday of every month.
JuneFest Vendor Applications
The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications
from food and arts and crafts vendors for JuneFest. JuneFest will be
held Saturday, June 1st in downtown Ackerman. To request an

Choctaw County Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market will kick off June 1 at JuneFest. Then, it will
be held every Friday in June & July from 3-7 pm. The vendor fee for
JuneFest is $15. Farm Bureau has offered to pay the vendor fee for
the first 10 vendors to register! After JuneFest, there is no vendor
fee. The farmers’ market is part of the MSU Extension Service-
Choctaw County’s Turning the Tide on Poverty Project. Applications

25th Anniversary Memorial Day
The re-activated Turner’s Battery, originally formed in Choctaw
County, will present a Confederate Memorial Day service at Odd
Fellows Cemetery on old Highway 82, Starkville, Saturday, April 27,
at 2 p.m. Along with a local United Daughters of the Confederacy
Chapter, Turner’s Battery will recognize one of the local soldiers
buried at Odd Fellows, as well as commemorate Confederate Memorial
Day, and the 25th Anniversary of Turner’s Battery hosting the ceremony.
