Take Pride in America Day was a topic of discussion at the January 14 meeting of the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors. Bobby Claybrook with the US Forest Service, Tombigbee, was at the meeting to explain how Choctaw Lake is sponsoring a Take Pride in America volunteer day on March 2 at the lake.

Claybrook said the US Forest Service is inviting as many people as they can to come out on March 2 to volunteer and help with several projects. He said on that day, the volunteers will focus on projects that will help them get ready for opening day, on March 8. A few of the projects Claybrook would like for volunteers to work on that day include trail maintenance, creating a nature trail around the lake and installing a Frisbee golf course with the help of the Mississippi State University Frisbee Golf Team.

“This would be a big shot in the arm for us,” said Claybrook about having volunteers help with those projects. He added that this is the first year that Choctaw Lake is doing a Take Pride in America volunteer day and he would like to make it an annual day.

Claybrook asked the supervisors for any help possible from the county. The board said they would look into having the county’s state inmates help with preparations before the volunteer day. No action was taken.

The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors approved: -Agenda. -Inventory deletion. -Postage request from Solid Waste. -To accept the annual Justice Court annual report. -Bond payment of approximately $151,000 and to forward to the bond trustee. -To advertise homestead exemption by request of Lori Kerr, tax assessor/collector. -County comprehensive emergency management plan. -Payment of $73,000 to Pioneer Health Systems for indigent care. -Transfer of $1,000 to the Sheriff’s Department petty cash by request of Sheriff Cloyd Halford. -To amend the agenda to add insurance issues. -The changing of the county’s cafeteria plan administrator.
