NARFE to Meet Nov. 15 The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, November 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Highway 12 East in Starkville. The guest speaker will be Jay Reed. The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. All active and retired federal employees are encouraged to attend.

The Greenes in concert Nov. 15 Thanksgiving singing with The Greenes on Thursday, November 15 at 7 pm at the Ackerman Church of God, located at 8162 Hwy. 12 West, Ackerman. A love offering will be received.

All About Camellias Nov. 15 Blooming from fall to late spring, there is a camellia to fit in everyone’s garden! Find out more November 15 at noon at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Dr. Wayne Porter will present the program via interactive video. Everyone is invited to attend. For information, call 285-6337.

Burlap Wreath Workshop Nov. 27 Learn how to make a burlap wreath Tuesday, November 27 at 5:30 pm at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Cost is $10 which includes burlap and supplies. You may bring your own decorations to put on the wreath. Workshop is limited to 8 participants so pre-registration is required. To register, call 285-6337.

Christmas Parade Dec. 6, Entry deadline Nov. 30 The Town of Ackerman would like to announce plans for the 2012 Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be A Picture Perfect Christmas. It will be held in downtown Ackerman on Thursday, December 6, beginning at 6 p.m. Entry forms must be completed and returned no later than November 30 to: Ackerman Christmas Parade, PO Box 394, Ackerman, MS 39735. Weir Flea Market Dec. 1 A flea market will be held on Front Street in Weir Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7am-2pm. There is no vendor fee. Applications may be picked up at Weir Town Hall, Choctaw County Extension Office and Broken Wings Ministry. For information call the Extension Office at 285-6337 or Joanne Potts 418-7728.

Yarn Spinners Book Club Dec. 4 Yarn Spinners Book Club meets at the Choctaw County Extension Office at 10:30-12:00 on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Participants take turns choosing which books to read, so there is a wide variety of subjects; some fiction, some non-fiction. Because Holiday preparations and events can be so hectic this time of year, on December 4th participants will share a little about one of their favorite books. Christmas Brunch Dec. 8 Celebrate the Season at a Christmas Brunch on December 8th from 9am-11am at the Community Center in Ackerman. Come enjoy the beautiful tablescapes delicious dishes and door prizes to be given away. Vendors will be on hand so plan to shop for Christmas. Special music will be provided and you don’t want to miss the featured speaker – Rita Sweatt. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any club member. This event is hosted by GFWC Ackerman Twentieth Century Club.

Christmas Parade in Weir Dec. 11 “Christmas in My Hometown” is the theme of the 2012 Christmas Parade in Weir. The parade will be Tuesday, December 11 at 6 p.m. All churches, organizations, and individuals are invited to march or ride in the parade. Christmas trees needed for Holiday Open House Christmas trees needed for Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 13 at the Choctaw County Library. We would like school groups, church groups, businesses and other organizations in the county to decorate Christmas trees. Each group is responsible for securing their own tree, live or artificial. We ask that no food items or glitter be used in decorations. Trees must be up by December 12 at noon. A Peoples’ Choice Award will be given again this year. To sign up to decorate a tree, contact the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337 or email jhughes@ext.msstate.edu. This event is sponsored by the Choctaw County Extension Office and Choctaw County Library.

30 Day Giveaway The Ackerman Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring a 30 day giveaway during the month of November. Among items to be given away are: $100 cash, rifles, oil change, mani & pedis, gift certificates, and other items too numerous to mention. Tickets may be purchased from any athlete or booster club member. Tickets are $30 and offer 30 chances to win. If your name is drawn as a winner, it goes back in the pot for another chance. Ackerman Band selling discount card Get your discount card for $10 to receive discounts at participating local businesses. Participating businesses and discounts are listed on the back of the card. Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting Group Location: Choctaw County Extension Office Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting group meets every Tuesday from 9 a.m.- Noon.
